In the life of the church the month of November is filled with festivals, observances, and changing seasons. This past Sunday, November 2, was All Saints Sunday, one of the oldest observances on the church calendar, formally dating back to the the Ninth Century C.E. At LCC our worship was made rich and meaningful thanks to extra effort put forth by everyone, with particular gratitude to Sherry Bradway for special bulletin production, to Sam Lindley for extra
ushering, to Cody Ricks for the beautiful music, to Susan Tinker for preparation of the chancel, to lector Maria VanVreede, assisting minister Molly Graybeal and acolytes Millie and Sydney for undertaking expanded worship leadership duties, and for the coffee hour prepared by the Simpson Family. It was a blessing! Thank you!
November 9 and 16 are final two Sundays in the season of Pentecost as our church year draws to a close on November 23 with the feast of Christ the King, a more recent addition to the liturgical calendar. In fact, this year marks the 100th anniversary of the introduction of this feastby Pope Pius XI. Lutherans, often a bit late to a liturgical party, in recent years have embraced this feast day that marks the transition from one church year to the next.
This year that new church year is another November highlight, with Advent 1 falling on November 30. On that day we begin the lighting of the wreath, as we anticipate the celebration of the Feast of the Nativity.
I look forward to being in worship with you, both in person and virtually. Thank you for this opportunity to be part of your community of faith and service.
Blessings,
Deacon Marilyn
